Street Style: Rhoda Wheeler

In this week’s street style, we meet Rhoda Wheeler. When she isn’t at her luxury consignment boutique Agents In Style, you can find her squeezing in a yoga class, indulging in a good read, or playing croquet with her daughters in her backyard. As an image consultant, a stylist, a small business owner, a mother, and more – there seems to be nothing that Rhoda can’t do.

Now, let’s get to know Rhoda Wheeler of Agents In Style.

How long have you lived in Arlington? I have lived in Arlington for five years, but my husband grew up here, in fact in the house that we now own!

Favorite item of clothing in your closet? This is almost like asking which is my favorite child! I’d have to say any of my Veronica Beard dickey jackets. I love a great jacket with any outfit, and the ability to mix it up with the zip-in dickey layer adds versatility and verve.

Biggest inspiration? My mother, who was elegant and never a victim to fashion fads. She made many of her clothes, and ours, but she also had shoes matching her handbag.

Dogs or cats? Dogs! Our Calvin Klein pup and our ‘grand pup’ Ozzy are like family! They both have their own Instagram accounts….@calvinkleinpup and @newberneseontheblock.

How long have you owned your boutique? I opened the Boutique in September 2019.

What inspired you to start your business? I have always worked in ‘helping’ professions, from teacher to fashion stylist. When I started my image consulting business Agents In Style in 2012, women were asking me for help with refining or defining their style. I opened the Boutique as a natural progression, offering women a place to define and refine their style. Offering consignment allows women a place to sell items that no longer fit their needs, and offers others a chance to purchase brands they may not be able to afford at full price.

What are three of your favorite items currently at your shop? Currently, a Louis Vuitton Keepall Bandouliere – a weekend bag perfect for travel, a pair of Chloe round toe high-heeled boots in a perfect taupe color, and the cute headbands we sell at an affordable price in snake print, leopard, and plaid.

Favorite Designer? My favorite designer has to be Oscar de la Renta – the bold florals and ladylike styles are truly appropriate for a wide range of ages and body types.

Favorite “buy” of all time? The Oscar de la Renta silk midi dress I am wearing for this shoot. It is feminine and yet whimsical at the same time with its woodland creatures pattern. I wear it year-round, with sandals, flats, and boots!

How can the community support you and your employees during this time? Since we are a very small shop that just opened, the very best support we can receive is telling others about us, and following us and sharing us on our social media platforms, both Facebook and Instagram are @shopagentsinstyle. We have opened our online boutique, so customers can shop there for clothing and accessories as well as gift cards –

One act of kindness you’ve witnessed? We are located in Crystal City on historic 23rd street, and most of the restaurants and other business owners on the street are checking in with each other, and doing what we can to cross-promote each other and help in any other way we can to get through this challenging time.

Favorite new hobby? Yoga from OmFit, an online service, on my screened-in porch with my daughter.

Top must-read books? I am a voracious reader, so this is another tough question. The Library Book by Susan Orlean (all of her books are terrific), A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith (excellent read all over again), and my all-time favorite, Remembrance of Things Past by Marcel Proust (I’ve just started it again – it takes a few months to read!).

Binge-worthy suggestion(s)? McLeod’s Daughters a series based in western Australia about a ranch owned and operated by women. You can stream it on Hulu and Amazon Prime Video.

What local business have you supported this week? The Portofino Restaurant on 23rd Street.

Favorite carry-out restaurant? Crystal City Sports Pub – I’m obsessed with the Billy Bayne Steak Bites salad.

Favorite family pastime? Croquet in the backyard.

Go-to at-home workout? Yoga from OmFit or online from Army Navy Country Club’s fitness director, John Porter – he’s amazing.

My Boutique is now open by appointment, for both consignment and shopping. We are implementing the necessary cleanliness and distancing practices. Visit for more and follow @shopagentsinstyle on Instagram for the latest updates!
