In this week’s street style, we’re getting to know Jennifer Jo. As you know, Jennifer is a respected Northern Virginia based Realtor in the Arlington Office of TTR Sotheby’s International Realty, and Stylebook’s “Arlington expert.” When Jennifer isn’t guiding buyers and sellers through the real estate process, you can find her designing her new home in Great Falls, binging Ozark on Netflix, exploring Roosevelt Island, or hosting a socially distanced happy hour in her backyard.
Keep reading to learn more about Jennifer, how she conquered her mid-life career change and much more!
How long have you been in Arlington? I have lived, worked, and played in the D.C. Metro area (including Arlington, where my son was born) for close to 20 years, on and off. For the past few years, I have worked and played in Arlington. My home is now in Great Falls!
What is your hometown? Sacramento, California.
What brought you to Virginia? I came to Washington, D.C. for law school and moved to Arlington shortly after graduating. I left for about five years (a short stint in San Diego, California), but our family chose to move back.
Favorite item of clothing in your closet? My wedding dress!
Biggest inspiration? Oprah, of course.
Dogs or cats? Dogs. Pugs specifically.
Favorite cocktail? Gin and tonic with some muddled mint. Add some actual cucumber, and I am very happy!
How long have you been in the real estate industry? I’ve been in this business for almost four years.
What inspired you to start your business? It’s a long story. The seed was planted when I bought my first home about 15 years ago. I’m so grateful for this mid-life career change. It is what I was meant to do!
Favorite style of home? French Provincial is my favorite, but I love any type of home that is done well. You know it when you see it.
Favorite home sale? One of my first sales was an 18,000 square foot castle on 15 acres with a lake. It was a huge challenge, but after it sat for many years on the market with different agents, my mentor and I sold it in just six weeks! An even bigger challenge was getting it to the closing table, but after many unexpected obstacles, we did it. This experience created a strong foundation and made me a better realtor.
Favorite room in your home? My bedroom. It has beautiful horsehair moldings and is painted in a soothing blue. We got a new mattress (adjustable!), a new headboard, and a new loveseat for the foot of the bed when we moved to my new home. It is both comfy and elegant at the same time.
Antiques, modern, or a mix? Antiques with occasional hints of modern. Always clean, never cluttered.
Last item purchased for your home: Dining table and chairs. Still waiting for them to be delivered!
Next planned purchase: Desks for the home office.
Favorite way to entertain: On the deck in my backyard. We love to host a socially distanced BBQ or happy hour!
Wallpaper – yes, totally modern or no, so dated? Yes, I love wallpaper! It just has to be the right fit for the space. I especially love wild wallpaper in a powder room! My favorite brands of wallpaper are Schumacher and Thibaut.
How can the community support you during this time? I am here to serve, so if anyone needs any help with real estate – or any other kind of support – my door is open!
One act of kindness you’ve witnessed? I have seen so many restaurants, who are hurting during this time, provide free meals to first responders and nursing homes. It is incredibly selfless and inspiring to witness.
How are you spending your time? When I’m not working, I am cherishing the extra time I get to spend with my husband, son, and sister (she lives with us) who are home significantly more than pre-COVID days (in the case of my son, constantly!). I also love taking family walks around the neighborhood.
A favorite new hobby? Designing my new home.
Binge-worthy suggestion(s)? Ozark, Never Have I Ever, and Ru Paul’s Drag Race.
Favorite carry-out restaurant? Big Buns Burgers.
Go-to at-home workout? I’m a treadmill girl.
Favorite spot in Arlington: I love venturing out to Roosevelt Island.
Last Purchase in Arlington: Drinks at Circa during a socially distanced outdoor happy hour.
Favorite Charity: Arlington Food Assistance Center, otherwise known as “AFAC.”
Favorite Annual Arlington Event: Arlington Festival of the Arts.
