You know how you have that one favorite piece of statement jewelry? Maybe it’s a stunning necklace or a fabulous pair of earrings – it pulls together everything you’re wearing. You can do the same thing with your living space with the right light fixture – statement lighting as we call it in the biz. Selecting a unique and bold lighting fixture can add a ton of character to an otherwise quiet room. It brings the eye up and can make your space feel larger. And true to the name, statement lighting shouldn’t be subtle! Here are a few of our favorite fixtures we’ve selected for our clients.
For the project below, we installed a Serge Mouille inspired ceiling fixture to add some glam to this D.C. rowhouse. I love the contrast of this modern lighting piece in a classic architecture setting and how it stretches out over the whole seating area. It brings an instant “wow” factor to this gathering space.
For our clients’ master bedroom project in the Old Dominion neighborhood of Arlington, we selected this lovely chandelier made of iron with an aged silver finish with crystal and stainless accents. The fixture serves as a crowning jewel for this inviting and colorful retreat for two busy parents.
We commissioned a custom, hand-blown glass chandelier for the dining room of this modern farmhouse in North Arlington. The piece was a perfect match for our clients’ streamlined, sophisticated style. The right lighting fixture can also serve as artwork in a room.
This final piece is an absolute showstopper! We selected this stunning three-pendant, counterweighted chandelier by artist Alison Berger for our clients’ waterfront condo in Alexandria. It is jaw-dropping. These clients have an extensive art collection and this stunning statement light felt like a natural addition.
Statement lighting comes in all shapes, sizes, and price ranges. There really is something for every style and every budget. Here are a couple of sites we recommend to start your search; Shades of Light and Circa Lighting.
Designer Tip: Hire a professional electrician to install your fixture! If your fixture is elaborate (and we hope it is), let the electrician know in advance what to expect. You can forward them the installation instructions before your install appointment so they’re prepared. Often the larger pieces need a team of two or more to install.
