Since becoming a Realtor, I have relied on “the market” to be a seasonal prompt (e.g., I know it is spring when I am really busy; I know it is time to get ready for the holidays when things slow down). Well, we have had an unseasonably active market in Arlington lately. So, you can imagine my surprise when I looked up at a calendar and realized that Thanksgiving just about a week away! Here is a list to get us ready and help us enjoy the day.
Don’t have time to plan, shop and cook this year? Not to worry, Earls in Arlington has you covered. They’ve got a full Thanksgiving menu for pre-order. With three different sizes of roasted turkeys to choose from, you can host an intimate gathering or a large group. Pick and choose individual dishes or have them cover your entire meal. Make sure to place your order by noon next Monday (Nov. 25). Pick-up will be 10:30am – 4:00pm the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. See the menu here.
Want to find the perfect wine(s) to pair with your Thanksgiving dinner? Join Verre Wine Bar for its Wine Tasting Festival on Saturday, November 23 from 2pm – 5pm. Verre will allow you to sample 30 wines from around the world. You will have the opportunity to learn all you ever wanted to know about the wines as you sip. Delicious hors d’oeuvres and deep discounts on wine will also be provided. The event is $30/person and you can sign up here.
It’s not Thanksgiving without pie, but what makes pie even better? Ice cream! On Monday, November 25 from 6:30pm – 7:30pm, Nicecream is hosting a Thanksgiving Ice Cream Making Demonstration. They will teach you how to make their favorite Thanksgiving flavors of ice cream and you get to take home a pint of your favorite! The event is $20/person and you can sign up here.
Join your neighbors on Thanksgiving morning for this beloved Arlington tradition. This year will mark the 14th year of the Arlington Turkey Trot, a 5k fun run/walk benefitting local charitable organizations. This year’s beneficiaries will be Arlington Food Assistance Center, Arlington Street People’s Assistance Network, Arlington Thrive, Bridges to Independence, Offender Aid and Restoration, and Young Life South Arlington. The race starts at 8am at Christ Church of Arlington. Registration is $45/adult, $25/child (ages 6-17) and children under 6 are free. Register here.
If you don’t want to lift a finger on Thanksgiving, even to reheat, Liberty Tavern has a solution for you. Their Thanksgiving Table all-you-can-eat buffet provides all the traditional favorites and more. This feast is so good, it has been rated the #1 restaurant for Thanksgiving by Yelp. Liberty Tavern’s Thanksgiving Table will be offered from 2pm – 8pm on Thanksgiving Day at a cost of $31.95/adult and $11.95/child under 12. If you would prefer a Thanksgiving Brunch, Liberty Tavern is offering a Breakfast Table, all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet from 10am – 2pm at the same price. Check out the menu and make your reservations here.
Did you know that the Smithsonian museums are open on Thanksgiving Day? I always forget, but the majority of Smithsonian museums – including the National Zoo – are open year-round, including all holidays except December 25. If you are hosting family from out of town, a quick trip over the bridge could be the perfect Thanksgiving Day activity. Thanksgiving hours for most of the museums are 10:00am – 5:30pm, but they do vary. Check here for a list of museum hours.
