Home Love in the Time of COVID

Holy cow, it feels like there are so many things out of our control these days. It can drive you totally bonkers if you let it. Well, let’s not let it! One way to reduce that feeling of being overwhelmed is by taking back the one thing that’s completely within your control – your living space. I know my anxiety level goes way down when I feel a sense of harmony with my environment (maybe that’s why I love designing interiors). And here’s the good news: Updating your home, even with all of the COVID-related disruptions, is absolutely do-able.

We started offering remote design back in March, and I’ve been amazed at how quickly it became second nature for both our clients and us. We’re currently helping several families improve their homes (and maintain their sanity) through a mix of remote and in-person design services.

One particularly special project we’re currently working on is for a family who is in the process of moving from the Netherlands back to the D.C. area. They hired us from Europe, via Zoom, to fully furnish and manage updates to their new home before returning to the States this summer.

We were flattered that they put their full trust and confidence in Arlington Home Interiors to create a perfect space for their family without even officially meeting us! From color selections to space planning to window treatments to furnishings for every room, they’ve counted on us to take the stress out of the zillion design decisions they would have had to make on their own. Now they can focus on their three children, their work responsibilities, and their big move back to the U.S.

Working with our clients in Europe has turned out to be surprisingly smooth. All our design concepts have been presented via Zoom, so we can get (and see) their reactions in real-time! When we needed to get their approval for samples of fabrics and finishes, we simply mailed the items.

We also had access to their new D.C. area home and were able to supervise trade work (e.g., the installation of wallpaper, carpeting, and window treatments) and construction activities like updating their kitchen and master bedrooms.

This project has been a real adventure in adapting to the times! Best of all, it’s working. We can’t wait to meet our clients later this month for the first time and show them the progress!

Whether you live in Europe or right down the street, we can help you create a new sense of harmony with your environment. Drop us a note anytime, and let’s get started!
