Let’s Help Breast Cancer Patients Affected by COVID-19

As some of you know, I have been an advocate for breast cancer research and assistance programs for a very long time. This dreadful disease robbed me of the chance to ever meet my mother-in-law. It also claimed my niece. I served on a national breast cancer foundation board for a number of years and in 2017 founded Runway to the Cure, a local non-profit organization that puts on a fashion show each October to raise funds. This exciting fashion show brings together merchants, corporations, and families from our community who share the common goals of finding a cure for breast cancer and supporting those who are fighting their personal battles.

Local retailers provide the outfits, jewelry, and accessories that the models wear in the show, while others donate hairstyling and makeup. All of the models participating in the show are former or current breast cancer warriors. The stories they share provide a very personal element to the event and their participation celebrates their strength and beauty. The net funds raised each year are split between a national breast cancer research organization and a local breast cancer organization providing support to patients – both are annually chosen through a grant selection process.

This year, COVID-19 has made doing a live fashion show impossible. So, we are going virtual and highlighting our past three shows on our website: www.runwaytothecure.org. If you are inspired to donate through this organization, all funds this year will go to assist breast cancer patients affected by COVID-19.

Additionally, Scout & Molly’s will donate $5 for each breast cancer face mask sold during October. You can purchase face masks in our two stores or online. Here are the styles we have available. Each face mask is $10.

Co-Owner
I am new to the fashion world and loving it. My daughter, Betsy, and I own two Scout & Molly’s Boutiques – one in Reston Town Center and one in Ballston Quarter. Our stores are part of a franchise that allows its owners to curate their own collections. So, we are able to match the vendors and designs we bring into our stores to our customers. Thus, you will find unique items in both of our stores. In our Ballston store you will find trendy, reasonably priced clothes for a casual outing, your workday, and special occasions along with lots of fun accessories and gift ideas! Before Betsy and I started this adventure, I enjoyed a career in the private sector offering consulting services to small and medium sized companies. I also devoted a lot of my time to health, educational, cultural, and social service boards. Most recently, I served as Chairman of the Congressional Commission to Study the Potential for an American Women’s History Museum as part of the Smithsonian.

We truly believe that no one style fits all and that we have to have choices for our customers so that she can find something that makes her feel beautiful and comfortable. Our stylists can help our clients step outside their comfort zone, find new trends and approaches to their style in a comfortable environment.

Our team believes that we should always treat each person that walks through our doors like we want to be treated and we strive to do that each and every day. We take our clients seriously. They become like family, stopping to see what’s new and to catch up with their favorite stylist. We hope that our clients feel like they are shopping in their best friend’s closet.
